We at Real Property Photography truly appreciate those we work with. This new series, ‘In the Spotlight’, will highlight some of our most valued clients, and focus on their success and achievements in their chosen careers.
Lisa is the second to be featured in this space. We asked her some questions about Benchmark Specialist Property Managers, and the secrets behind her success.
What was your motivation for pursuing a career in real estate?
During one of the last terms of my Bachelor of Commerce Degree, I was assigned to a project with a small residential building company. The project was analysing their service and client processes. I absolutely loved it and I think from that point I knew I was going to spend my life working in real estate in one aspect or another.
What has been your biggest challenge to date?
Every day has it’s challenges in Property Management, but my biggest challenge has been being disciplined enough to step aside from daily tasks to take the time to work on improving operations and growing the business. This, as well as a common challenge for most working Mums – finding that work-life-balance.
How do you stay organised and on track?
There are so many disruptions, details, and new situations to manage daily, but calendar reminders and digital to-do lists keep me organised. Property Management certainly keeps the mind sharp! There’s so much to remember and do…lists are crucial. On a macro level, I must give credit to my husband; I learn a lot from him and he keeps me focused on the big picture.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I intend to organically grow Benchmark Specialist Property Managers (currently operating out of Joondalup) to open another office further south. I believe there’s room for our Property Management concentrated services in the Western suburbs. Besides my aspirations for Benchmark, I may also venture into other facets of real estate.
How would you define success?
Ultimately, I believe success comes down to life balance and enjoying the components of each day. I measure my success on the fact that I enjoy getting up and facing my day – work, family, friends, activities, etc. It’s important to keep learning, achieving and doing what motivates you.
What are the top three skills needed to be successful?
Communication (in every sense of the word – from presentation to empathy), eagerness to learn/teachability, and confidence.
If you could give yourself any advice before you started this career, what would it be?
There can be a lot of negativity in this industry, but it’s only those that truly have a passion about delivering good service, and enjoy the challenges and variability that persevere. My advice is don’t sweat the small stuff. Stay positive with progression in mind. And also, it’s only when you work hard and step outside your comfort zone that you succeed.
